Our CEO Mark Detrick and new President Dan Kutchel continue to spearhead Capio’s lobbying efforts. Mark is leading our thought leadership efforts, is working more closely with consumer advocacy groups, he is exploring new strategic partnerships for Capio, and is discussing solutions for medical debt with other executives and industry leaders to ensure solutions are informed and balanced to meet the needs of care providers and patients. This work aligns with the sponsorship of a white paper on medical debt causes and potential solutions, and a panel discussion this past fall at Georgetown with industry and government leaders.
We are thrilled to share that our strategic initiative continues to gain momentum. Our team recently traveled Washington D.C. to continue our conversations with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and we were fortunate enough to meet with the Senate Minority Leader and six senators from states struggling with medical debt who sit on the House Financial Services and Banking Committees. We continue to monitor or be involved with the following legislative efforts:
- All Federal legislation
- Hospital Association Lobbying Efforts
- California -AB1020
- Florida -HB 1527
- Michigan Monitoring Consumer Credit and Collections Bill
- Nevada – Litigation with ACA
- New Jersey-S2428, CRA limitations and agency limitations
- North Carolina –Medical Debt De-Weaponization Act
- Washington HB 1616
- Vermont HB 287 –
- Virginia HB – 201
- Colorado HB -1285
In addition to these efforts, we monitor additional states and will keep our clients alerted to any legislation which maybe of consequence. Please feel free to reach out to us to learn more about any of these efforts or if you are interested in partnering with us on any legislative activities.
